An alternative history of the Internet from a language perspective

Here are two short videos that survey the history of the Internet, from the perspective of languages, and with an alternative vision to the official discourse. They are two elements of a complete course of which we have just completed the first draft A Geopolitics of the Multilingual Internet: Presence and Promotion of the Portuguese Language in Cyberspace“. This is the introduction to module 2 of this course, the diagnosis of Portuguese on the Internet, and this general overview could be useful in other linguistic or thematic contexts.

The videos are in Spanish, but you should take advantage of the exceptional new features available on YouTube: to have subtitles interpreted into the language of your choice, click on the configuration gear at the bottom right of the screen, choose the subtitling option, then click on the language to the right of the option, and finally click on translate automatically and choose the translation language, from among the 250 offered by GoogleTranslate. The interpretation is not perfect, but it is almost simultaneous and allows you to follow the presentation.
